The Better Sleep Diet

Did you know that what you eat can affect how you sleep? Research suggests that a diet high in saturated fat and sugar, and low in fiber and protein may cause sleep problems, including difficulty falling asleep and staying asleep. Research also indicates that a diet high in complex carbohydrates, especially foods high in fiber, may help you fall asleep more quickly and also allow for more REM and slow-wave sleep. For optimal sleep, eat a balanced diet that includes fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains and low-fat proteins.
